Kerong Lee SUPER TROFEO EUROPE FINALE AND GRAND FINALS

PORTIMAO WEEKEND WRAP: SUPER TROFEO EUROPE FINALE AND GRAND FINALS

8 Nov 2022

Team-mates Jean-Francois Brunot and Kerong Li brought the curtain down on a very busy final event of the Lamborghini Super Trofeo season at Portimao in Portugal over the weekend, with the last two races of the European season and the standalone year-ending ‘Grand Finals’.

The first of the two Super Trofeo Europe encounters on Friday took place on a wet track and from 10th in Pro-Am and 22nd overall at the start, Brunot quickly made up places. Up into ninth in class and 16th overall before the pit-stops, he handed over the No.87 Lamborghini Huracan to Li for the run to the finish where he sealed a top 20 result and 10th in Pro-Am.

Li started race two later in the afternoon from the back of the grid but, on a now dry track, he drove well and following an early Safety Car he got into his rhythm. Staying out when the pit-window opened, Li climbed to fifth in Pro-Am and 15th overall before Brunot took over and he only just missed out on another Pro-Am top 10 with 11th place, 22nd overall.

With the European category competitors joining their counterparts from Super Trofeo North America for the two-day ‘Grand Finals’ on Saturday and Sunday, Brunot and Li experienced two frustrating races.

Brunot started well in the opener on Saturday from 11th in Pro-Am and all went to plan – until the crankshaft sensor failed and Brunot had to retire. Li contested the last race on Sunday, under some glorious Algarve skies, as a sole driver and he concluded the encounter ninth in Pro-Am
