STRONG SUPER TROFEO PACE COMPROMISED FOR LI & BRUNOT IN BARCELONA

5 Oct 2022

Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya hosted the penultimate event of the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe season over the weekend, where Kerong Li  & Jean-Francois Brunot  had to settle for a best finish of seventh place in Pro-Am during race two on Sunday morning.

Brunot got things off to a great start in Spain with the sixth fastest time in Pro-Am during the first qualifying session for race one, a season-best 11th overall. Unfortunately, though, a mechanical issue just before the Lamborghini Huracan was due to head to the grid meant an enforced pitlane start for Saturday’s race.

Making good progress through the huge 44-car entry, Brunot stayed out well into the second half of the encounter and climbed to sixth in class and 16th overall as the pit-stops played out. Handing over the car to Li with just over 20 minute to run, he brought the Leipert Motorsport entry home in 11th in Pro-Am, 32nd overall.

Li started Sunday’s contest having qualified the car ninth in Pro-Am, 26th overall. In a stint with two Safety Car interventions, Li maintained ninth in class and gained one overall place before Brunot climbed behind the wheel for the final half hour. His progress was impacted by a Full Course Yellow period, due to on-track debris, but he finished an improved seventh in Pro-Am and 22nd overall.

Portimao in Portugal is the destination for the Lamborghini Super Trofeo season finale on Thursday, 3rd November, and Friday, 4th November. The ‘World Finals’, featuring the best drivers and teams from the European and North American Super Trofeo championships, follow on 5th/6th November.
